Construction:
The 17-317 antenna is a small antenna less then a foot long. It has a swivel base so it can
be straight, upright or at a 90 degree angle. It's black, slim and has a rubbery feel to it.
Performance:
I haven't played with it much but I can say it improves the reception on the 800 mhz band over
the stock antenna that came with my BC895XLT scanner. There is almost no reception that is received
below the 800 mhz band. I plan to do a more in depth comparison in the future.
My 2 cents:
Well, on my BC895XLT, I didn't see much of difference but I imagine that with a hand held scanner,
there is a much larger improvement. The difference in using the 17-317 antenna and the
stock antenna was noticeable. If your looking to improve the 800 mhz reception, you
might want to try the 17-317 antenna first because it's only 20 bucks. You will also need
a TNC male to a BNC female adapter, Radio Shack sells the 278-144A adapter for 3.99.
