Brian's Cable Swap Review
(from Radio Shack's 8/U to 9913)
Facts:
Well, I was using Radio Shacks 50 foot roll of 8/U cable with PL-259 connectors
for my BC895XLT and I had heard of all the advantages of using 9913.
So I decided to get some 9913 to replace the 8/U cable. So I ordered a 50 foot
roll of 9913 from
Radio-Ware with PL-259 connectors.
It took a week to get here which I thought was a little long but I got what I ordered no
problems. I spent maybe an hour taking out the old cable and installing the new cable. Now I
was ready to plug it in and give it a try...
Performance:
I didn't notice much of a difference at first and honestly, I still don't notice very much
of a difference. The 9913 has cut down a little bit on interference but not very much, It
has helped a little bit on some of the 800 mhz frequencies but not a very noticable difference.
I don't really notice a difference in the S-meter readings on my BC895 either. It hasn't hurt
anything but it didn't improve things by much.
My 2 cents:
I had to give it a try, that's just me. I would always pick 9913 over anything else especially
RG-58. The price for the 9913 was about the same as the Radio Shack 8/U cable and I would rather
go with the better stuff, the 9913. You can have a nice radio and even a nice antenna, but if
you skimp on the cable wire, your just screwing yourself...
